Farewell to André!
Last week you read André’s farewell to everyone. Last Saturday, we had a great turnout of members and friends to see him off! Now I would like to publically thank him. For the past number of years, André and I have been friends and teammates in business. We started working together at Pezula where he was Assistant and then Head Superintendent. He helped to produce a golf course that was known for its fine conditioning and playability. For the past three years here, he has continued in providing the golfer with an excellent playing experience by producing a great playing surface. What many people will never know is that he has done it all with a very conservative working budget. You see, André has also served on our EXCO and played an instrumental role in establishing St Francis Links as leader in the estate industry – through significant cost controls and innovative estate maintenance programmes.
André has contributed to national recognition we have received by presenting a fantastic course and estate for all to see and enjoy – he has done it in challenging financial times, with Mother Nature as a partner, and at times, a foe! He has now accepted a position, much like I did coming here to SA twenty years ago, in a foreign country, with different cultural challenges (and opportunities) – Mauritius!
As he stated in his farewell, your trip there will be his pleasure to enhance! We all wish you well, André and hope that your family will be there soon to join you as you lift another course and estate to a higher level! Thanks for the effort and the memories!
Ps...I hope your new boss will be easier on you on the course…I look forward to collecting my “bets” when I see you there!
