Greetings from St Francis Links

For those of you that are not regular players in our Wednesday and Saturday competitions it may interest you to know that ALL our competitions are mixed (ladies and men).

We generally do not have big member fields and as a result try to keep things a little more competitive by playing everyone in the same competition.

Since our cavemen days, us men, having never enjoyed taking a beating from the ladies, can get quite upset when it happens, we will tolerate a “once off” or a “once in a while” victory by the fairer sex but PLEASE not more than that!

Just as Jeff left for his vacation the Ladies managed to end about a 3 month “dry” streak and then have proceeded in winning absolutely every competition since.
As you can imagine this has caused much tension in the ranks and I have borne the brunt of much abuse. This all culminated a few days ago when I was called aside by a spokesperson representative of the Cavemen Golf Society and told that no more would the men play with the ladies... This prompted a little research... the results of which many of you (mostly the men) will find staggering...

Winning Percentages Wednesday/ Saturday Competitions 2011
Men – 73 %
Ladies – 22 %
Mixed teams (men and ladies) – 5 %

So the moral of the story, gents, is... dry your eyes and play better golf.

The Big 6 Challenge has really become a great event for the club and should be a highlight on your golfing calendar. We offer golf at crazy prices and allow you and a friend 6 chances at qualifying for the final with the grand prize being a golf trip for four to play 5 fantastic courses (Pinnacle Point, Oubaai, Fancourt, Pezula and Simola) including accommodation (Hyatt Regency at Oubaai and The Pezula Hotel & Spa)! I would like to thank everyone that supported us through the Winter by playing in the qualifying events and also to Bells Old Scotch Whisky and the above mentioned course and accommodation sponsors. This weekend we hosted the final that consisted of 24 betterball teams all vying for the grand prize and honour of being named Big 6 Champions 2011. Each year the winners of the final have had to shoot more than 50 pts to do so and this year was no different.... 54 pts!! Congratulations to our first ever Ladies Champions in Gill Hammond and Denise Perry, enjoy your trip!!!

The Leisure Centre

Our Leisure Centre now has ceilings, a nice sand stone pool surround and the picture alongside shows the footings for the tunnel!

In an effort to make the area as sheltered as possible from the very occasional strong winds we get, you will now enter our new facility through a tunnel in the dunes that surround the pool. The area is really taking shape nicely.

• Junior Coaching is every Tuesday 15:30 – 16:30 on the driving range. If you would like your kids to come please book your place by calling Justin on 042 2004500/ 084 556 4346.
