Short Putts

Members of the Links kept themselves in shape this festive season with some yoga. Sheila Maubec led the group through some basic yoga poses and flows twice a week, working on their strength, stamina and flexibility as well as showing them how to breathe and relax more effectively.

Sheila, a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher, says: ‘Most of the group were golfers and suffered from restrictions and injuries which can be hugely improved with yoga.

Yoga At The Links
Sheila with Trudy at the penguin sanctuary at Cape St Francis
We worked a lot on standing poses to strengthen the legs and support the joints, twists and back bends to ease the lower back, shoulder openers to improve their general posture, and forward bends to release tight hamstrings and gluts.

All in all, I think all the students felt energized after the practice, so I hope they will continue with their yoga while I’m not there to bully them!’

Rather than charge a fee for the lessons, Sheila requested a donation. Her son, Tristan, spent his festive season helping out at The Penguin Sanctuary at Cape St Francis, so Sheila decided to donate the proceeds of the classes to Trudy: ‘She is in desperate need of a new pressure hose, so this will be a help a little in buying that.’

Bo and Ingrid Samuelsson from Malmö, Sweden played their 1000 game of golf here today! They have only been playing the great game for 11 years and also played us as their 200th course some time ago - now 267. He had nett 67 and she had nett 70! Good folks!

Ingrid wrote…”Swedish golfers celebrate on St Francis Links! We love to play in Sweden and abroad and to challenge different types of courses. Our favourite destination is South Africa and we are back for the 6th time. Last time we were at St Francis Links in 2008, it was our 200th different course! This time it was very special, coming to the 19th hole having played 1000 rounds on 267 different courses St Francis Links is special to us.

What will be the next thing to celebrate here – a Hole in ONE!!?
